How it works

Get in touch either via our online form, or request a call back to talk to one of our friendly advisors to learn more about what we can do for your home, including the benefits of each of our solutions. In addition, you can talk to one of our community energy champions if you would like to speak to someone in the community who has already installed improvements in their home. You can then go on to book your free home assessment when you are ready.

Step 1

Initial Consultation

Benefit from a free home assessment with one of our dedicated advisors who will identify areas for improvement to make your home more sustainable and energy-efficient. After that, you have the choice to purchase the services of a project coordinator who will put together a set of recommendations for your home, which will then form a specification based on your preferences and requirements.

Step 2

Personalised Plan

Once you have chosen the perfect solution for your home, your specification will be circulated to a number of YorEnergy accredited suppliers. Your coordinator will discuss the supplier quotes with you. Once you have confirmed which energy-efficient solution works best for your home, they will take you through the finance or grant options. They will be more than happy to answer any other questions.

Step 3

Quotation and Supplier Selection

Your supplier and installer will manage the installation process throughout, including the creation of the installation schedule, through to quality checking the work against the specification when the work is done. Once the work is complete they will be available to answer any remaining questions.

Step 4

Our team

Below you will see details of the roles of an advisor and a coordinator, and how they will help you with your project:

retrofit_advisor.png

Adviser

An adviser is your first point of contact at the start of your journey.

Your assigned adviser will guide you through the process of upgrading your home for improved energy efficiency and sustainability. Your adviser will look to understand your needs and will be on hand to answer your questions. They will also help you to engage with a community energy champion for further support if you need it, and then arrange your free home assessment.

Your adviser will come to your home and conduct the free home assessment which will help to identify the ways that your home is losing energy, this could be through poor insulation or air leaks, for example. The free home assessment will help to provide the solutions to improve energy efficiency in your home.

retrofit_coordinator.png

Coordinator

A coordinator is experienced and highly accredited (PAS2035 accredited). After your free home assessment, you will have the option to purchase project coordination services. If you do purchase these services, your project coordinator will collaborate with your assigned adviser to develop a set of solutions for your home. The results of this will then be presented to you.

Once your solutions have been presented, the coordinator will work closely with you to identify your preferred options. They will create a detailed specification for suppliers, based on your requirements. The coordinator will review the supplier quotes with you and once you have selected your suppliers, the suppliers will become your primary contact for installation queries.

They will then survey the house room by room, taking measurements and noting down any observations as they go. They will record video footage of the house and take photos to have as much information as possible to put together your assessment report.

What should I look for in a supplier?

Choosing the right supplier will be unique to you and your home. You may want to consider cost, the track record of the business, whether they're local or from further afield, and whether they specialise in the trade you're looking for (such as specialising in older buildings). Although your coordinator can't make this decision for you, they can help you with any questions or queries. At YorEnergy we are here to provide you with access to accredited suppliers and contractors that are local to you.

How much do the energy-efficient solutions cost?

The cost of upgrading your home is is subject to a variety of factors – from the choice of solution and their complexity, to the size of your home and whether you commission all the work or do some of it yourself. Fixing draughts can be a lower budget DIY solution. Insulation costs from around £1,000 for a loft to £8,000+ for external walls Combining several solutions into one project will increase cost and complexity, potentially up to tens of thousands of pounds. However, if done well, it is likely to lead to higher levels of improved performance in comfort, energy bills and reduced carbon emissions.

Speak to one of our advisors here today about how energy-efficient solutions for your home can benefit you.

How long does it take?

Each home is different, so the project length will vary, this is due to factors including the supplier and the solution, and the householders needs and requirements. Single and relatively straightforward solutions such as PV solar panels may take a matter of weeks from purchase to install. There may be a longer wait for any fabric-related measures such as insulation or window replacement, due to higher demand. Once started, these projects can last from a few days to a few weeks. A whole-house project combining numerous solutions can be phased over a number of years to minimise disruption. If the work is planned in a continuous sequence, it could take 6 months or more. It can speed things up if the householders are able to move out during the most disruptive phases of work.

Get in touch here to speak to one of our friendly advisors about home project schedules in more detail.

How many quotes do I get for my solution?

The number of quotes you receive will depend on how many suppliers there are who offer that service. For example, there are more heat pump installers than companies who specialise in external wall insulation, so it's likely that you would receive more quotes for installing a heat pump than for installing external wall insulation. However, we're adding new suppliers to our network all the time, and will offer you multiple supplier options.

How do I choose the right supplier for my project?

At YorEnergy we have set up a supplier network with a number of accredited suppliers that will quote you for your home improvements. Choosing the right one will be unique to you and your home. You may want to consider cost, the track record of the business, whether they're local or from further afield, and whether they specialise in the trade you're looking for (such as specialising in older buildings). Although your coordinator can't make this decision for you, they can help you with any questions or queries. Find out more about our accredited suppliers here or get in touch to speak to an advisor.
