Training Modules
-
To address gaps in training for retrofit professionals and to empower community champions and educators, Energy Systems Catapult in partnership with BE-ST, has developed a series of training modules and in-person teaching resources that are freely available to all online.
The modules focus on four key areas:
-
Customer care and advice
-
Supporting households in vulnerable circumstances
-
Building physics
-
Whole house approach – York Case studies
Available Modules
Modules 1 and 2 focus on how retrofit professionals and community champions can work with households before, during and after the retrofit process, while modules 3 and 4 provide foundational knowledge on the principles of Building Physics and building types specific to the city of York.
The training has been designed principally for two key audiences: retrofit professionals (including advisers, assessors and coordinators) and those who educate them, and local community champions who support their neighbours in navigating the retrofit process.

The content draws on lessons from Energy Systems Catapult's innovation projects and Buildings team, as well as input from external experts including Historic England.
It has been created to complement existing training, and to be embedded within existing training structures and curricula. By equipping professionals and volunteers alike with the right knowledge, skills and mindset, these modules support a high-quality, people-focused retrofit experience. This investment in skills is essential to delivering trusted advice and the installation of high-quality retrofit measures at scale in the city of York.
